Local transcription

When you use Local, transcription is performed on your Mac. Audio, transcripts, Recent history, settings, and your Personal Dictionary remain on the device and are not sent to Espicar. You control this information through the app and by deleting the app’s local data.

Cloud transcription and text transformation

When you use Cloud, the audio and active Personal Dictionary terms are sent securely to Espicar’s cloud service and relevant AI service providers to perform your request. When you use Transform Selection, the selected text and your instruction are sent instead.

Espicar does not use this content for advertising or model training and does not intentionally retain it after the request has been completed. Temporary files are deleted after processing. Service providers may process limited technical or security data according to their own data-processing terms.

Personal Dictionary

Your Personal Dictionary is stored on your Mac and is not synchronized with your Espicar account. With Local, it never leaves the device. With Cloud, active terms are sent with each transcription to improve recognition. Espicar does not store these terms in your account or retain them after the request.

Account, purchases, and operational data

If you use Espicar Cloud, we process the information needed to manage your account, authentication, available Cloud time, purchases, and transaction history. Sign in with Apple is used for authentication and Stripe processes payments. Espicar does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

Espicar may process limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the service, such as an installation identifier, app version, request status, error category, and usage totals. Optional usage statistics never include audio, transcripts, selected text, or Personal Dictionary terms.

Service providers

Depending on the feature and current service configuration, data may be processed by Apple, Stripe, Hetzner, Cloudflare, Soniox, Groq, or OpenAI. Each provider receives only the information needed to provide its part of the service.

Legal bases

We process account, purchase, and Cloud request data to provide the service you request. We process necessary security and operational data based on our legitimate interest in maintaining a reliable and secure service. Optional usage statistics are processed only when enabled. Some billing information may be retained to comply with legal obligations.

Retention

Cloud request content is processed transiently and is not retained by Espicar after the request. Account and purchase records are retained while the account is active and for any additional period required for accounting, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. Operational and installation data is retained for no longer than 365 days. Local data remains on your Mac until you delete it.

International processing

Some service providers may process data outside Sweden or the European Economic Area. Where required, such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of your personal data, object to certain processing, or request data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Espicar is not designed to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

Children

Espicar is not directed specifically at children. If you believe that a child has provided personal data through the service, contact us.

Changes

We may update this policy when Espicar or its service providers change. The current version and its effective date are shown on this page.
